Anxiety, Panic & Health Is Alive!

by Mike Nichols on September 23, 2010 · 82 comments

It’s been a long time since the last post on Anxiety, Panic & Health. Some people thought I had abandoned it for good. I even had offers to purchase it.

Well, I’m back, but where have I been? Long-time readers will know that I don’t like to talk about myself on this blog, so I won’t go into a long tale of woe. Suffice it to say that I’ve had a bad time with my bipolar disorder, and I’ve started a new business as well. I’ve managed to hold my head above water, and now I’m ready to return to AP&H.

You may expect regular posts in the future. The next one will be about the new DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) that is being prepared now for introduction in 2013. I am also doing research to update previous articles with new information.

One thing you can expect to see are more articles about general mental health issues. Also, there are several mental disorders that frequently occur alongside the Anxiety Disorders, such as depression, and there will be articles about these, too. I have decided to expand the scope of Anxiety, Panic & Health a bit to give you more and better information to help you live a successful, fulfilling life.

As always, your suggestions for articles are welcome. Just leave a comment on this post or email me directly using the “Contact” menu item.

Anxiety and stress are the number one killer today. With this growing fast paced life, demands are any where, anxiety occurs most often in our lives. Such a pity when we consider it as a number one killer. Before, people die because of sickness without an underlying cause of anxiety, back then life was so simple.

There’s so much I want to say, so much I want to share, and no first post can possibly do that. Besides, a lot of it is contained under the “Information” heading on the right. I’m still filling in the “Anxiety Reference” section, and it ought to be finished in a few days. But I wanted to get this blog going, and finally decided that I would just go ahead and start posting before all the background material was up.

Great blog! I suffer from manic-depression and I agree, depression and anxiety go hand in hand. When I get anxious, I feel this uncomfortable feeling in the region of my heart. It’s amazing, but after I exercise, this is all released and transformed into positive energy. I look forward to reading more of your articles.

So informative post, true that nowadays a lot of people can’t handle the stress that they feel and that sometimes lead to anxiety and depressions. And before it’s too late we have to search help and medical advice .

Anxiety, anxiety and more anxiety, this what makes the world go down. Yes! indeed some may loose work, some companies drain down for bad decision after anxiety attacks from the owner or even worst death because of anxiety. This is a fat paced generation, everybody is working on a schedule to buy the latest gadget or to buy something to use for happiness(?) wow, simple life, and ,living within the budget means less anxiety.

Hi there,
I only just discovered your blog.
Anxiety is so wide-spread and disabling that I hope you will soon post again. I am certainly interested in your views on DSM-V.
Personally, I feel they have gone somewhat overboard.

What a brilliant post. You should do a series! :)I did a sort of blogging for dummies over
on one of the craft forums and I thought it was too simple for them, but the amount of
emails I got asking questions just like what you addressed was unbelievable. As young
people today we have grown up with computers, but it’s easy to forget that even people just a few years older have not! Really good post! :)

When it comes to mental health, schizophrenia has always piqued my curiosity and I was wondering if you could post some articles about it, most especially, on how to interact with people who have it. I hear from friends that it’s quite scary to interact with them. Is this true? I’d really want to know about it. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this health information.

I’m very interested to hear your views on the new dsm Mike. I know it is not out yet, but there’s already clear ideas on changes that are being made, in particular to the diagnosing of PTSD and also the use of the term ‘personality disorder’.
