<description>Mike Nichols: I just found this site and your wonderful articles. As a one time phobic and now a therapist who works with anxious children and adults, I&#039;ve used exposure therapy on myself and with clients. Other techniques I&#039;ve found extremely helpful come from the work of Dr. Claire Weekes, particularly &quot;floating&quot; and learning how to stop being afraid of the symptoms of anxiety. When one can do that, not care about how anxiety and panic feels--it&#039;s empowering.

I&#039;ll be checking back on this great site regularly.

Regards,
Diane

<description>Excellent post, Michael, thank you. I&#039;m particularly interested in learning about the use of CBT in overcoming anxiety disorders alongside exposure therapy - I&#039;ve done this kind of work on myself supported by Person Centred Counselling and had trouble getting access to a CBT locally. I like the way you&#039;ve described habituation.

Exposure therapy/de-sensitisation training is effective if you are willing to put the work in - and it works with obsessions and OCD too. I was diagnosed with complex OCD just over 5 years ago after suffering in silence with it for over 21 years. Over about 3 years I removed 27 obsessions; 14 phobias; panic attacks and some other intense emotional problems - all using the approach you describe here.

I&#039;m putting a link to this post on my blog.

Regards.

Carl
